today was the Mangaka06 Awards Ceremony. and guess what? the freaking judge was a godamn black. not indian, african american. like, WHAT THE HELL? this is a bloody Mangaka Digital Art Competition! ok, not that i have anything against blacks, but his opening speech really infuriated me. when he started talking about stretching the boundaries of creativity, i was nodding along, but when he began crapping about how it shouldn't be entirely japanese-influenced, my mouth eventually turned into a straight line. why should there be any western comic influence inside a Mangaka Digital Art? this competition itself is based on Manga art style, so why should there be any hint of Westernization? and i personally felt that the judging criteria was rather unfair. i'm not saying this because i'm angry that i got Consolation, but i feel that there should be a panel of judges, not just one person to assess the works. that way, you get an all-round perspective. additionally, i felt that the top prize winner was entirely underserving of the award.  just look at it? in what way is it better than Victoria's? [see previous 2 posts] i'm looking at this from an outsider's point of view, and i sincerely think that between the two, Vic's was better. honestly. well, it's rather hard, since their styles are very different. maybe i just prefer Vic's.i understand that the judge[s] tried to be impartial and prolly felt that if Vic won again, the competition would lose popularity if people felt it was rigged. but you gotta lay the facts as they are. a lot of people were very dismayed when certain pieces weren't nominated for the top 3, such as those below. i personally felt that they were quite good as well, if not some lacking in concept or skill. *uncertainty* well it's all up to the individual i guess. i can say that this year's competition was extremely tough compared to last year's, because of the many people eyeing the XBox360 and the Nitendo DS Lite. 'sides, there wasn't enough media coverage last year, so not many people heard of it i guess. oh well. i guess i can try again next year.. under my sister's name. XD ah well. leastways i managed to buy a Graphire 04. it's a tablet, perfect for graphics. XD i seriously need moolah. which is why i'm selling my iPod Nano. XS not that it was that great anyway. i think it's because of all the media spotlight, that's why it's been labelled a status accessory. your status gets upped if you are spotted plugged into a pair of white earphones, never mind if it's connected to nothing on the other end. XD like i mentioned, here are some entries which i felt should have gotten special attention:      see what i mean? these are GOOD, albeit a bit out of point, but still good. |
