wow a post the day right after, aren't i being updatish? XD nah i'm just bored.
today was my da's birthday, can't believe he's 51 already ZOMP. so we went to Waruku Restaurant, which is at East Coast, because my da was curious about it. heck, he's always attracted by all those Japanese fine-dining/contemporary/whatever dining, but i secretly think it's just so he can go and diss their food and pick at it. XD ok that's mean.

anyways, Waruku was awesome. the food was acceptable and the price tag was also affordable, not like those ripoff overpriced Japanese food at various places which come to mind, but this was a serious effort to produce authentic Japanese food, Izayaka style.

items which we wolfed down included
Niku Curry Noodles [slices of seasoned beef in thick Japanese curry with your choice of udon/soba and the udon was great, really chewy, and my da even approved of the curry, which is saying something],
Hokainabe [at least, that's what i think it was, something like a mini-steamboat slash miso-soup-base with a healthy portion of scallop, golden and shitake mushrooms and various other yummy stuff],
Hamatsu [again, aother unsure-of name, yellow tail fish? sashimi which my da ordered - he always orders this at every single Japanese restaurant we go to and bases his rating of the place on this and i have no idea why oh but i remember that a few days back we went to Sushi Tei and he spat the Hamatsu or whatever sashimi out in disgust and told the waitress that it simply wasn't fresh and they cancelled the order ZOMP],
Chawan Mushi [a must-have for my sister and mom],
Stonepot Garlic Fried Rice [the name says it all, this was very fragrant and the rice was just right],
and wonders of wonders, POTATO MENTAI. [no, it's not a made-up word between mental and hentai. it's just like the Tofu Mentai from Nanjya Monjya which is another überloverly Japanese contemporary dining place but i'm sidetracking so therefore back to the point, for those wunnerful n00bs out there who don't know what Mentai is, imagine: a sizzling hot plate, filled to the brim with tofu/potato/whatever you like, and drenched in oodles and oodles of melted cheese and sprinkles of salmon bites. *grin* hungry yet?]

the downside was the Onigiri my da ordered for fun laughter and joy, because it was entirely unimpressive and they didn't use authentic Japanese GREEN seaweed, just the usual blackish ones, and the rice wasn't fragrant. the pre-packaged ones from Meidi-Ya Supermarket are so much better.

oh there was a cute waiter too. *giggles*

..i just realized i haven't said "happy birthday" to my da at all. i just realized a lot of things, i've never said to him for quite a while now. like "goodnight", "i love you", "thank you". and at this point you might gasp in horror at my lack of manners, but i'm talking about something different. most of us can drone "thank you" to strangers, but what i'm talking about is the sincerity in saying it.
i don't know, when has it become so hard for me to open my mouth to say such things? was it because i felt embarrassed by the mushiness of it? was it because i thought i was too old for such things? was it because i simply did not know how to deal with the reactions and emotions?

i shall resolve to say goodnight to my da later when i sleep.

the round one.

Just your average human specimen wanting to be something more. Also has an absurd fondness for potatoes and shoes, among other things.
