The world isn't fair. It never was. "Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a "He that readeth good writers and pickes out their flowres for his own nose, is "Art is either plagiarism or revolution." "My books need no one to accuse or judge you: the page which is yours stands up "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the random quotes. some of them make sense, and some don't. not to those who don't know what i'm talking about anyway. but i'm sure most of you do. [i just liked the first one. : D] Plagiarism is something that doesn't apply only to written works. it applies to art as well. No self-respecting artist would ever think of copying someone else's work/idea and passing it off as their own. No self-respecting dancer would record another artiste's moves and pass it off as their own. No self-respecting musician would steal another band's lyrics or notes and play it as their own. Even in secondary school, plagiarism is considered extremely serious. Teachers have always warned, if you're going to take information from a source, cite the source. Never pass the information off as your own, you're not that smart. Same goes for everything else. Plagiarism only shows 2 things: One, the person who copied was an idiot who couldn't come up with their own ideas because their brain cells are just simply, not, there. Two, look at number one. Any artist with any ounce of dignity would therefore feel offended if they see their work being plagiarized and, worse, passed off as the offender's own. That, really, is the ultimate insult. Not citing credit may be justifiable, perhaps through short-term memory loss or whatever. Claiming credit is injustifiable. Let's take a look at a purely fictional case study: Person A tries their best to think of something original and unthoughtof and presents what he feels is a representation of his idea. Person B stumbles upon an artpiece which amazes them and therefore decides to pass it off as their own and presents it. Person B gains a higher hitcount and popularity votes due to "their" idea. Is this injustice? I think so. Why do people plagiarize? Are they that desperate, that they have to resort to stealing others' works to gain fame and all that bs that comes along? Have they ever thought about the original artistes, who no doubt feel indignant and hurt that their works have been stolen and passed off as others'? Plagiarizers are rather selfish people, if you see it this way. It seems like for that goal they want to achieve, they do not reserve any concern nor empathy for those original artists, whose blood and sweat have gone into their labor of love. Plagiarism is the enemy of many artistes out there. Working so hard to achieve something that you had thought of, only to see that a week later, someone "creates" the exact same thing and gains better criticism than you. Plagiarism is the thorn in Originality's side, and yet it is something that will no doubt be there for a long time to come. It's time to dish out credit, people. And some karma. |
the round one.
Just your average human specimen wanting to be something more. Also has an absurd fondness for potatoes and shoes, among other things.
