there's probably a huge difference in our education and theirs when we were growing up, especially in the way they handle feedback. the only problem i have with most faculty here is that their crit usually is too gentle and vague, maybe because they're afraid they'll get sued or fired or something if students cry.
and maybe i've grown accustomed to that, because when i encountered a teacher who didn't really give a shit - and to the point where his words could really be insensitive - i was also, like the rest, taken aback. horrified. i resented it initially, but i realized that really, all we need to do is take it with a pinch of salt. being babied and spoon-fed doses of niceties will make you feel better, sure, but it doesn't mean it'll help you in the long run when what you need is honesty. and yes, he may be totally tactless and sound like a jerk, but just install a filter in your head and sieve out the important, educational bits.

so when i see students complaining about how a certain teacher is behaving or doling out harsh crit, i think i can only say: SUCK IT UP.
it's just an example of what the industry can be like. you are definitely going to meet clients or employers at some point in your career that will act or say things that you don't agree on. so what, life sucks, move on people.

Just your average human specimen wanting to be something more. Also has an absurd fondness for potatoes and shoes, among other things.
